Education is the Key/New River in Marlinton

I/ve been reading the biography about Dr. Roland Sharp and I was very impressed by his emphasis on the importance of education as a key to one's success in life. The Workforce-Snowshoe Center in Marlinton will be coming to the County Commission on our first meeting January 6th to seek funding for a cooperative effort with New River Community and Technical College to "put boots on the ground" in Marlinton by establishing a "store front" for the College at the Workforce-Snowshoe Center. College personnel would be in Marlinton two days a week, a distance learning center will be established, college counseling etc. and a real college presence in Marlinton would start off 2009. This is a fantastic opportunity for the County and I am hopeful the new Commission will agree and answer their funding request with a resounding "yes we can".

While I'm on the subject, I want to publicly acknowledge the fine work of Gibbs Kinderman and others who made this book about Dr. Roland Sharp a reality. With this kind of initiative and follow through, I don't see how our community can do other than succeed.

Wow Martin! That's great news! I hope this works out for the people of PC.
I just got Roland's book in the mail for a Christmas gift. I've been looking through it & it looks to be a good book & very interesting. Can't wait to start reading it!.
